C4 plans new satirical show
The journalist who exposed Harvey Weinstein is set to front a late-night satirical show for Channel 4.
Ronan Farrow – the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen – described the Hollywood mogul’s sordid history of unwanted sexual advances in a 10,000-word New York Times article earlier this week.
He is developing the new half-hour format, provisionally titled Cocks News, with Madeleine Smithberg, one of the creators of The Daily Show.
Their aim is to offer a view of British current affairs from a US perspective, trade magazine Broadcast reports.
Speaking at the publication’s Commissioning Forum, Channel 4’s head of entertainment Ed Havard said that he was looking for a satirical show to sit alongside The Last Leg.
‘One of the great traditions in the US is their satire and topical programming, and we’re keen to tap into that,’ he said.
He added that the show could also help offer new talent a different route to the screen, saying: 'Our nursery slopes are still dominated by panel shows.’
Farrow is an investigative reporter for NBC News and previously worked on humanitarian affairs in Pakistan and Afghanistan for the Obama administration.
