Watch Peter Kay spoof costume dramas in new Warburtons ads

Peter Kay channels the spirit of Mr Darcy in a new costume drama spoof… all to advertise Warburton's bread.

'The steamy, epic tale of passion, tells how the bakery started 141 years ago, with the comedian playing Thomas Warburton, a seed salesman and suitor for the bread-obsessed heroine Ellen.

The three-minute film – entitled Pride and Breadjudice – parodies scenes from Poldark, Ghost and the Jane Austen classic.

Kay is seen atop a white steed, showing his fancy footwork at a Regency ball (via the medium of a robot dancing) and baring his naked torso (though a body double may have been used)

The comedian, known for recycling his stand-up material, gets to run out some of his catchphrases, including 'garlic bread?' and 'Ave it' – which he first used to advertise John Smith's beer in a series of commercials that helped make his name.

There's also an out-takes video:

And a film of him pitching pun-based film ideas to the company boss Jonathan Warburton:
