The Orville to launch this autumn

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is making a new sci-fi comedy called The Orville.

Co-created with Iron Man director Jon Favreau, the series will run for 13 hour-long episodes on US network Fox.

The Star Trek-style show is set 400 years in the future and follows the adventures of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory vessel. Its crew, both human and alien, faces the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar problems of regular people in a workplace.

Macfarlane plays Planetary Union officer Ed Mercer, who captains the craft, while the cast also includes Adrienne Palicki, Scott Grimes, Penny Johnson Jerald and comedian Norm Macdonald, who will voice a ‘gelatinous creature’.

The Orville will launch in the autumn.
