Modern Family gets two more series
Modern Family has been renewed for two more seasons.
The ABC network has ordered two more 22-episode runs, taking the total to ten seasons and 232 episodes.
All the core cast have re-signed, with sizeable salary increases reported. According to Deadline, the six main adult actors – Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara – will have their salaries hiked from $350,000 an episode to about $500,000.
ABC also said that ‘the door is open’ for additional seasons beyond the new deal.
Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan said: ‘We are beyond thrilled that we get to spend more time with these characters, these amazing actors, our ridiculously talented writers and our incredible crew — all of whom are like family to us. And the good kind of family, not the kind that argues with you all the time.
His co-creator Christopher Lloyd said: ‘Ty Burrell has already pointed out that Alexander the Great's entire reign only lasted 8 1/2 years, so yes, everyone is deeply humbled by this.’
Modern Family – which airs on Sky 1 in the UK – is the second biggest comedy on US television, behind only The Big Bang Theory, which was recently renewed for two seasons by rival network CBS.
Meanwhile, Fox has renewed post-apocalyptic comedy Last Man On Earth, starring its creator Will Forte with Kristen Schaal and January Jones, for a fourth season. The first two series were shown on Dave in the UK, but the ongoing third season has not yet made it here.
And ABC has cancelled Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing after six seasons.
