Rutger Hauer joins hospital sitcom Porters
Blade Runner star Rutger Hauer has joined the cast of Dave’s new hospital sitcom Porters.
In his first British TV comedy role, the Hollywood star plays Tillman, a porter and former golfing prodigy who teaches newbie Simon (Ed Easton) about the ways of the hospital, manhood, karma and love.
Writer Dan Sefton said, ‘I’m astonished and honoured that a genuine movie legend has agreed to take part in a sitcom written by an idiot. None of us are worthy, especially me.
‘It’s quite surreal but utterly amazing to go from watching someone on screen as a kid, to chatting about your script with them in Costa Coffee’
Laurence Bowen, executive producer at Dancing Ledge Productions, added: ‘His casting will help make the eccentric world of Porters truly memorable."
Porters is directed by Vadim Jean, who previously helmed Leon The Pig Farmer, and the three 40-minute episode launch on Dave later this year.
The show revolves around Easton’s character, who dreams of becoming a doctor by starting at the bottom and becoming the best porter the NHS has ever seen.
Chewing Gum's Susan Wokoma co-stars as the cynical, self-styled 'Queen of the Porters' Frankie, with Josh's Claudia Jessie playing the naïve nurse Lucy
Sefton is a part-time doctor whose previous credits include Dawn French's Delicious.
