C4 orders builders' comedy
Channel 4 is making a new comedy series about a pair of dodgy cockney builders,.
Five half-hour episodes of Lee & Dean will be available on C4's on-demand service All4 later this year.
Creators Mark O'Sullivan and Miles Chapman have already made a YouTube video featuring the characters, but it has remained under the radar with just over 2,000 views.
Stand-up Ricky Grover is also set to make an appearance in the improvised show, which is set in Stevenage.
Channel 4 says the comedy will revolve around ‘cheap builds, cheap lager, bark rubbing, break ups, and bad poetry’ – and the unrequited love at the heart of the bromance.
Lee & Dean is being made by O'Sullivan and Chapman's company Bingo Productions.
They previously made three short Blaps for Channel 4:
Rachel Springett, Channel 4’s commissioning editor said: ‘We have been working with the talented writers and performers Mark and Miles from developments to Blaps and we're thrilled to now be making a full series Lee & Dean with them, set in the world of Stevenage builders. It will be a joy to watch the ensemble cast bring these brilliantly well-observed characters to life.’
In a statement, O’Sullivan and Chapman added: 'We’re cock-a-hoop that we’ve been given the opportunity to bring LEE & DEAN to life for the channel that has produced so many of our favourite comedies. And if there’s any chance we can get a City & Guilds in bricklaying out of it, it’s a double win for us.'
