Eddie Izzard's memoirs get a release date

With a US tour in support

Eddie Izzard's autobiography Believe Me is to be published in June, several months later than initially planned.

Publishers Michael Joseph had originally hoped to get the volume – subtitled – A Memoir of Love, Death and Jazz Chickens in the shops by last Christmas.

However a release date of June 15 has now been set, with the book available in hardback and as a CD audiobook.

It will be his second book, following Dress To Kill back in 2000 –  a series of conversations with comedy writer David Quantick about his life, transvestitism and comedy career.

Believe Me will chart how the death of his mother, when he was just six, gave him the determination to succeed in 'things that some people would consider impossible'.

The book promises tells of 'teddy bear shows on boarding school beds, renouncing accountancy for swordfighting on the streets of London and making those first tentative steps towards becoming an Action Transvestite, touring France in French and playing the Hollywood Bowl'.

Izzard has also announced a handful of US dates to promote the release of the book there.

The six nights, all in June, promise he will perform some stand-up as well as read of book extracts, share personal photos, discuss his personal and professional life and answer questions from the audience.

• Meanwhile, doctor-turned-comedian Adam Kay has revealed the cover of his book detailing his time on the wards. Originally called Your Life In My Hands, the memoirs are now titled This Is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor and will be published by Picador on September 17. Order.
