Oldie but goodie...
Pete Teckman was last night crowned Silver Stand-Up of the Year in a competition for older comedians.
At 55, the comic was one of the youngest taking part; the oldest was 81-year-old Mavis Smith from Leicester.
The competition is organised by the Leicester Comedy Festival and requires the comics to perform five-minute sets – which should have presented no challenges for Teckman, from Northampton, who has already presented a full-length solo show.
He said: ‘There were acts who entered with different levels of experience all having a go and it's just really nice that there's something there for older acts to to have a go at. I think it's a great competition."
The other acts taking part were: Sandra Hale from Herts, 64; Nik Hill from Gloucester, 58; Rosetta Delisle from London, 65; Sally Firth from London, 61; Billy McGuire from Derby, 59; Geri-Raptric from Shoreham-by-Sea, 64; Mandy McCarthy from Harrogate, 55; Kevin Hudson from Leicester, 56; Sha Wylie from Hove, 71; Christine Crawley from Banbury, 66; Fred Ferenczi from Aylesbury, 61; Bruce Sidlo from Morecambe, 66; Pat O’Connor from Surrey, 60; Norman Conquest from York, 70; Gill Thomas from Leicester, 59; Murrae Blair-Park, from Ashby, 55; Paul Haslam from Rochdale, 68;
Previous winners have included Shelley Bridgman, Marc Lucero and 2016 winner Marguerite Grant.
