New Radio 4 show for Bridget Christie

Inspired by her hatred of a Britain that voted 'Leave'

Bridget Christie is making a new Radio 4 series inspired by her disillusionment with Britain after the vote to leave the EU.

The comic says she hates what the UK is becoming in the wake of the referendum, so in the new show, Bridget Christie’s Utopia, she will seek out people who believe they have found the secret to a happier life.

That will include those who refuse to read the news, or those who try to follow a sustainable Good Life-style existence.

She says the idea is an extension of her live show, Because You Demanded It, in which she expresses her outrage at the arguments surrounding the Brexit debate.

‘It’s the next step on,’ she told the i newspaper. ‘The whole series is, "I don’t feel happy with my country, with what’s happening. Whose utopia do I take on in order for me to be happy?’

In the interview, she didn’t hold back about feeling alienated in the current climate.

‘I hate it here – I hate our representatives, I hate what we look like at the moment,’ she said. ‘We look like an absolute bunch of lunatics… and I don’t want to be part of it. I can’t be on my own with this. I can’t be’

Christie is also writing a sitcom based on her reaction to Brexit, in which a middle-aged woman Stuck in a Rut decides to return to her home town of Gloucester to figure out which direction her life should take.

‘It’s basically me if I didn’t get a very unexpected break at the age of 42,’ she told the newspaper.

Christie’s spokeswoman said both projects were still in their ‘early days’ so could not reveal any more.

The comedian starts her UK tour of Because You Demanded It next week. Dates
