BBC picks up new Mrs Brown show
Mrs Brown is to host a new Saturday night entertainment show, All Round To Mrs Brown’s, on BBC One.
The BBC has today confirmed that a series has been ordered for later this year following the success of a pilot recorded in the autumn.
Brendan O’Carroll’s alter-ego will oversee ‘celebrity guests, surprise audience shenanigans and outrageous stunts’ in the show, set in her fictional family home, backed by her usual cast of supporting characters.
Mrs Brown’s Boys was last year named the most popular sitcom of the 21st century, and the live episode which aired last July reached more than 11 million viewers.
O’Carroll says: ‘The entire cast is excited by this. I think Agnes may be worried that she'll need a bigger kettle to make tea for everyone that's coming round!
‘One of the things everyone at BocPix [his production company] enjoys about working with the BBC is that we are always given the encouragement to explore new ideas - like we did with the live episode.’
BBC commissioning editor Alan Tyler added: ‘Brendan is a truly special talent and in Mrs Brown he has created someone who is loved by our audience. We are thrilled that Agnes is throwing her doors open and cannot wait to see what Brendan, Jenny [Gibney, O'Carroll's wife who plays his daughter Cathy in the show] and the brilliant cast have in store for those who step inside.’
All Round To Mrs Brown’s is being made by BocPix with Hungry Bear Media.
