Ricky Gervais has been shortlisted for a Writers’ Guild Of America award for hosting the Golden Globe Awards.
Producer Barry Adelman is actually credited with penning the comedian’s celebrity-roasting script, with Gervais acknowledged for ‘special material’ alongside three other writers.
The team are up for the comedy and variety award for music, awards, tributes and specials alongside the Emmy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the Oscars hosted by Chris Rock and the Triumph Primary Election Special featuring the ‘insult comic dog’.
Of Gervais’s co-writers, Dave Boone also wrote the Oscars script, while Jon Mack contributed to the Oscar and Emmy awards. The Golden Globes team was completed by Matthew Robinson, who co-wrote 2009’s The Invention of Lying with Gervais.
In other categories, Atlanta, Silicon Valley, Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Veep have all been nominated for the Writers’ Guild Of America award for best comedy series.
Documentary Now!, Inside Amy Schumer, Maya & Marty, Nathan For You and Saturday Night Live are up for best sketch series
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert are up for the comedy and variety (including talk) category.
And ‘episodic comedy’ nominees are shows from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tig Notaro's One Mississippi, Speechless, Atlanta and Son of Zorn.
Winners are announced on February 19.
