Comedian dodges gunfire during stand-up set
Dramatic footage has been posted of a comedian ducking gunfire during her stand-up set.
Toni Byrd was performing at a bar in Bloomfield, New Jersey, on Friday when bullets started flying at about 11.45pm.
She was speaking about being a lesbian undergoing the menopause when shots are heard and the laughter turned to screams.
Cameraphone footage recorded by a friend shows the comedian ducking for cover. She then took shelter in a back room,
‘I was right in the mix of the crossfire,’ 49-year-old Byrd told local TV station Pix11. ‘There was smoke in the air from the gunshots.’
She added there was no fight inside the club and that all the gunfire came from outside.
No one was killed in the shooting, which left five people with non-life-threatening injuries The Sports In The City Lounge was left with bullet-scarred walls and shattered glass.
‘They just shot that place up, man,’ Byrd added. ‘Whoever did it had no regard for whoever was in there.’
Reports say multiple gunmen were involved, with three different weapons. No arrests have been made.
