Ricky Gervais announces stand-up dates

Humanity may be his final tour

Ricky Gervais has announced the first dates of his new stand-up tour, Humanity.

He first teased the show in 2012, but it has taken five years for him to clear space in his schedule for the shows.

It is his first live tour since 2009’s Science – and he has said it could be his last.

Writing on his blog earlier this year, he said: ‘I also plan to do more warm-ups than usual as I want this to be my best show ever and possibly my last. Never say never, but with that attitude it will make me put every ounce of my soul into it.’

Gervais has said he wants the show to tour worldwide for as long as possible, so will put off any DVD or TV special release.

Today eight dates in Bristol, York, Cardiff, Manchester, Bournemouth and Belfast have been confirmed

Announcing them, he said: ‘Thousands of people paying hard-earned cash to come and see you live is such a privilege. You’d better have something different, interesting and funny to say.

‘Humanity is my angriest, most honest and I think my best tour yet. It’s probably my most personal too. I feel I may as well tell you everything before I die."

Tickets go on sale at 10am tomorrow. Gervais previously set a record when he sold 100,000 tickets in nine minutes for the 28-night run of his Fame tour at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2007.

The Humanity tour so far is below. Extra dates will be added here as they are announced.

Bristol Colston Hall on February 21

York Barbican on February 28

Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on March 6

Manchester O2 Apollo on March 13

Liverpool Empire on March 15

Bournemouth International Centre on March 22

Belfast Waterfront Hall on March 28 and 29
