Bill Cosby plans a comedy comeback
Bill Cosby expects to pick up his comedy career once the many legal cases alleging sexual assault are settled.
His lawyer revealed his plans for a comeback as she fought to keep his business records from being used in court.
‘When Mr Cosby is cleared from all liability and charges, and the impact of plaintiffs’ defamatory conduct has subsided, he expects to resume his career, and there is no reason to believe otherwise,’ his attorney Angela Agrusa wrote in a motion to Massachusetts federal court.
She said that if his financial affairs were made public. the information would ‘tie his hands’ in any new contract negotiations.
The statement, revealed by Hollywood industry website Variety, comes in the case several accusers have brought accusing Cosby of defamation after he rubbished their claims of sexual assault. The civil cases have been brought over incidents that allegedly took place too long ago to warrant criminal investigation under the statute of limitations.
The 79-year-old comic is facing a separate criminal trial in Pennsylvania over three charges of indecent assault stemming from a 2004 incident involving Andrea Constand, who worked at his alma mater, Temple University.
Last month, his lawyers said that Cosby was now legally blind, so couldn’t be expected to defend himself fairly. ‘Without his eyesight, Mr. Cosby cannot even determine whether he has ever even seen some of his accusers, let alone develop defences,’ they said.
