What your favourite band reveals about your favourite comedian
Coldplay fans like Jimmy Carr; Peter Kay fans like Robbie Williams and Stewart Lee fans like The Fall.
They are just some of the findings of new research on mutual fanbases conducted by the Ents24 website.
The company looked at which comedians were favourite among various bands’ followers, and vice-versa, to come up with their ‘map’ charting the links.
They found that Carr – along with Russell Howard and Bill Bailey – were the comedians most loved by music's most popular acts.
Certain bands and comedians were twinned – with big overlaps in both directions. They include Jack Whitehall and Ed Sheeran; Tim Minchin and Frank Turner; Mark Thomas and Billy Bragg, Michael Buble and Michael McIntyre; Ricky Gervais and Oasis, and U2 and Billy Connolly.
‘For each comedian we determined the most popular music act amongst their fans, and for each music act, we determined the most popular comedian, based on information from the 1.2 million fans who track artists on Ents24,’ said the company’s marketing boss, Adam Brooks
‘Our music and comedy connections map shows for the first time the relationship between the most popular musicians and comedians, in terms of their shared fanbase.
‘As well as providing some unique insight, it also highlights the opportunities that exist to promote music to non-music audiences, and comedy to non-comedy audiences – opportunities that are often overlooked.’
Other strong overlaps include Micky Flanagan fans liking One Direction; Ross Noble fans liking Rge Against The Machine; IAMX fans liking The Mighty Boosh and Tim Vine fans liking Squeeze.
