America has another go at Pulling
America is having another bash at adapting Sharon Horgan’s comedy series Pulling.
The NBC network is developing its own version, with Horgan and co-writer Dennis Kelly as executive producers.
It is the Americans’ third stab at the series, about the horrifying dating adventures of three single women in their thirties, following pilots in 2009 and 2013 – both at rivals ABC. Kelly, Horgan and her US production partner Aaron Kaplan worked on the previous efforts, too.
The original series began on BBC Three in 2006, but the Corporation cancelled it in 2009 – despite wide critical acclaim – to Horgan’s dismay.
Bob’s Burgers writing duo Wendy & Lizzie Molyneux are working on the new remake, Hollywood industry website Deadline reports.
Horgan is being feted as a writer in the States. The Channel 4 show Catastrophe, which she created with co-star Rob Delaney, is currently streaming on Amazon, and Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, is on HBO.
She has also piloted Bad Mom, Bad Management, Dead Boss (again based on a BBC Three original) at various US networks. And she is one of the producers on a US version of Bad Sugar – based on Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong’s spoof melodramatic soap opera which aired on Channel 4 in 2012 – also currently in development.
