Dave Johns up for two acting awards
Dave Johns has been nominated for two British Independent Film awards for his role in I, Daniel Blake.
The comedian has been shortlisted for best actor and for most promising newcomer.
For the main award, he is up against such well-established screen stars as Michael Fassbender and Shia Labeouf.
Fellow nominees for best newcomer include his co-star Hayley Squires, who is also up for best actress.
Meanwhile, comedian Brett Goldstein has been nominated for best supporting role for his appearance in Adult Life Skills; and former Garth Marenghi co-star Alice Lowe is up for the Douglas Hickcox Award for best debut director for Prevenge (Review).
And Simon Farnaby and Julian Barrett are up for best debut screenwriter for their surreal detective movie Mindhorn.
I, Daniel Blake has a total of seven nods, including best British independent film, best director for Ken Loach and best screenplay. It has already won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
The BIFAs will be handed out on December 4 at London’s Old Billingsgate.
