Simpsons writer Kevin Curran has died at the age of 59.

He previously wrote for Late Night with David Letterman and the sitcom Married...with Children – where he also voiced Buck The Dog – before joining the Simpsons staff in 2001.

Notable episodes Curran wrote include  2010's The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed, set in Jersualem, My Big Fat Geek Wedding, in which  Mrs. Krabappel  falls for Comic Book Guy, and  The Island of Dr. Hibbert section of the 2002 Treehouse of Horror episode

Simpsons producer Al Jean tweeted: 'V v sad at the passing of Kevin Curran brilliantly funny and true friend.'

Former showrunner Mike Scully added: 'Kevin Curran made u laugh on Simpsons, Married, & more. He was hilariously cynical about everything in life except his kids, whom he adored.'

Curran is survived by a son and a daughter that he had with Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding. The couple were in a relationship from 1999 to 2006.
