Set in the world of the Magic Circle

Nick Mohammed has written a children’s book based around his love of magic.

The Young Magicians And The Thieves Almanac will be published in February, and tells of four friends who enter the mysterious Magic Circle.

Mohammed has been a member of Bradford Magic Circle for 19 years and in 2012 was made an associate of the Inner Magic Circle, while his most recent live character comedy show revolves around Harry Houdini.

He said: ‘Ever since I became a junior member of the Northern Magic Circle in 1995 I’ve been desperate to tell as many people as I could about the wonderful and completely bonkers world of magic, and about the even more bonkers people who inhabit its societies.

‘Something about magic that I’ve always loved is its ability to take one back to their childhood, to a time when anything was possible. It feels to me that there is a real innocent quality to good magic, which is why I’ve always found the subject matter resonates so clearly with children.’

Mohammed is know to children for playing Mr Love in the CBBC series Hank Zipzer, while his adult credits include the films Absolutely Fabulous, The Martian and Bridget Jones's Baby.

Young MagiciansThe Young Magicians And The Thieves Almanac is to be published by Penguin Random House Children’s.

Publisher Ruth Knowles told trade website The Bookseller: ‘I have been a fan of Nick Mohammed’s for many years now, thanks to his incredibly funny comedy characters on stage and screen.

‘I’m delighted that Nick is just as laugh-out-loud on the page as he is in real life, and fans of David Walliams and My Brother is a Superhero will love his combination of fresh and funny mystery-adventure.’

The four child characters at the heart of the book are shy Alex, who excels at card tricks; pickpocket Zack; hypnotist Sophie; and Jonny who ‘mixes science and magic with spectacular consequences (mostly explosions)’.
