A couple of Khans
Sadiq Khan is to make a cameo appearance in Citizen Khan.
The London mayor will feature in the first episode of the fifth series of the BBC sitcom, playing himself.
The plot has Adil Ray’s title character having to bare all after forgetting his wedding anniversary, and then having a chance meeting with the politician, who is seen posing for selfies.
The episode also features appearances from Test Match Special’s Jonathan Agnew and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan as Mr Khan tries to prove that he knows England all-rounder Moeen Ali.
Sadiq Khan is not the only political figure to appear in the new series, which starts on November 4, as Baroness Warsi is also making a cameo as part of a storyline about a Muslim fun day at the mosque.
Harry Enfield, Ricky Grover and Niky Wardley – who played Lauren Cooper's best friend Lisa Jackson in The Catherine Tate Show – will also appear in the series.
It will culminate in a Christmas episode, A Changeful Life, inspired by Frank Capra’s classic It’s A Wonderful Life, and revolving around the time when Mr and Mrs Khan first moved into their home in the Sparkhill district of Birmingham. That episode features Open All Hours star Lynda Baron as a guest star.
