Great British Fake Off
The Daily Mail has been fooled by impressionist Morgana Robinson.
MailOnline today used a picture of the mimic pretending to be Mel and Sue – in the belief it was the real Bake Off presenters.
The website, which gets almost 14million daily viewers, used a photograph from Robinson's new BBC Two show The Agency in a story about Mary Berry possibly starring in a new rival show after Channel 4 snapped up the rights to the original.
But the mistake was quickly spotted by readers.
One commentator said: 'Why is there a picture of 2 women copying Mel and Sue rather than them themselves?' – not realising that Robinson was in fact posing as both of the presenters.
Another called Cynical Scarlett said: 'Your photo of Mel and Sue isn't Mel and Sue… it's a photo of a comedy sketch pretending to be them?'
And comedy writer Oriane Messina captured the mistake on Twitter.
Am not sure The Mail realise this isn't Mel & Sue and that they've used a photo of Morgana Robinson in their latest cake gate story. #GBBO pic.twitter.com/xzGcUcgmPf

The article was originally published at 11pm last night, but updated just after 10am today, and now features a correct picture of Mses Giedroyc and Perkins.
It is not the first time MailOnline has mistakenly used a photograph of a comedian in disguise.
In 2014, it illustrated a story about King Charles II with a picture of Bridget Christie dressed as the Monarch in fake moustache and robe made out of an old curtain.
At the time Christie said: 'This is the best thing that's ever happened to me, both personally or professionally.'
• Morgana Robinson's The Agency starts on BBC Two at 10pm tonight. She talks about it here – and our verdict is here .
