But he says victim 'ran into' glass

A Hong Kong comedian has appeared in court after being accused of glassing a heckler in the face.

Gary Stephen Jackson has denied the charge of wounding, saying the victim ‘ran into’ the glass at the Hong Kong Brew House in March.

Ravi Kanasamoorthe said he was attacked after criticising the comic for joke he thought was racist.

Jackson’s lawyer told the court that he had only intended to ‘swish’ beer on Kanasamoorthe, the Hong Kong Free Press reports.

She also told the court that the victim had attempted to punch the comedian – but she failed to mention this when cross-examining Kanasamoorthe earlier in the trial.

CCTV footage showed 42-year-old Jackson going offstage and grabbing a beer glass, but the rest of the altercation took place  off-camera.

The court will reach a verdict in two weeks’ time.
