ITV buys Stephen Fry's US sitcom
ITV2 has brought the rights to American sitcom The Great Indoors, which stars Stephen Fry as an international explorer turned magazine editor.
The CBS sitcom also stars Community's Joel McHale as an adventure reporter for the outdoor publication, who gives up his adventurous lifestyle to become the desk-bound boss to a group of millennials in the digital department.
Rosemary Newell, ITV’s director of acquisitions said: ‘The Great Indoors is a smart premise, with a strong cast and we think it'll be a great addition to the wealth of youth skewing comedy we're continuing to build on ITV2.’
Set to premiere in America on October 27, The Great Indoors also stars British actor Susannah Fielding, who played Chloe in the Channel 4 sitcom Pete versus Life, alongside Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Shaun Brown and Christine Ko.
It has been written by Mike Gibbons, who created the hit clip show Tosh.0 and has been an executive producer on the Late Late Show with James Corden.
Although not as famous in America as his former double-act parter Hugh Laurie, Fry is known to Stateside viewers thanks to recurring roles in Bones and 24: Live Another Day.
Stephen Tague from CBS Studios International added: ‘We are delighted to work with ITV2 to bring U.K. audiences a comedy that spans the generations. The Great Indoors combines a cast of fresh and experienced talent, with a creative team that has worked on some of television’s best known comedies, for a dynamic take on the modern media workplace.’
