Larry Dean takes Amused Moose crown

Comic deemed 'on the cusp of stardom'

Glaswegian comic Larry Dean has won this year's Amused Moose Comedy Award.

Nominated for the Foster's best newcomer award at last year's Fringe, his follow-up, Farcissist, beat more than 100 entrants to take the accolade this afternoon.

His victory was decided by members of a panel of  comedy industry insiders and the audience, who came to a unanimous decision.

The runner-up was Neal Portenza.

The other shows shortlisted – all from comics deemed to have met the criterion of being ‘on the cusp of stardom' – were:

Eric Lampaert: Alien of Extraordinary Ability

Flo & Joan: Victory Flaps

James Loveridge: Castles in the Sand

John Robertson: Arena Spectacular!

Laura Lexx: Tyrannosaurus Lexx

Pippa Evans: Same Same but Different

Sleeping Trees: Sci-Fi?

Tom Ballard: The World Keeps Happening

There is no cash prize, but a selection of the finalists will perform as part of a showcase season at London's Soho Theatre this autumn

Previous winners have been Tony Law, Marcel Lucont, Celia Pacquola and Richard Gadd
