The new show after Freewheeling...

Ross Noble has piloted a new travelogue series charting adventures on his motorbike – after confirming that his Dave show Freewheeling wouldn't be coming back.

Stairway To Devon was filmed on a trip he and his friend, film-maker Austin Vince, took off the beaten track in the South West of England.

However, should it be picked up by a broadcaster, the pair would hope to adventure to more exotic locations.

The pair slept rough in ad-hoc camps each night, swapping stories and giving each other challenges. Producers call it 'QI, but re-imagined as a travel show'.

Noble previously toured Britain on his bike for the Dave series Freewheeling, when his path was determined by his Twitter followers, while his wanderlust was sated in the Radio 4 series Ross Noble Goes Global.

He wrote on Twitter today: 'For those asking about more freewheeling answer is no but this is my new thing.' He added that the plan was only ever to make two series of Freewheeling, as he aid on the show.

Noble's motorcycling adventures have also previously included a 26,000km tour of Australia, travelling from Cape Town to Victoria Falls with Charley Boorman and touring the UK on the 500,000th Triumph bike.

Meanwhile, Vince is also an engineering expert, ex-army officer, history teacher and twice around-the-world adventure motorcyclist.

Noble said of his Devon trip: 'We're taking a route that can only be taken on dirt-bikes. So we're off the grid, under the radar, rough camping and totally self-sufficient. Forget off the beaten track – we're going off the track that comes off the track that comes off the track of the beaten track. And what Austin doesn't realise is that because it's Devon we'll be eating nothing but rice pudding…'

The pilot is to get its first public screening at the Adventure Travel Film Festival in Mill Hill, North London, from August 12 to 14, followed by a Q&A with the pair.
