Mock The Week dropped after MP's killing
The BBC has dropped tonight’s episode of Mock The Week following the killing of MP Jo Cox.
Tonight’s edition had been due to feature James Acaster, Dane Baptiste, Rob Beckett, Ed Byrne and Holly Walsh as well as host Dara O Briain and regular Hugh Dennis.
The show’s official Twiiter feed announced: ‘In the light of today's events there will be no Mock the Week tonight #RIPJoCox’
And O Briain tweeted: ‘Understandably, in light of today's events, there will be no Mock The Week tonight. We recorded the show on Tuesday; it may be shown later.’
Labour MP Cox has died after being shot and stabbed multiple times following a constituency meeting in Birstall, West Yorkshire this afternoon. A 52-year-old man has been arrested and named in the media as Tommy Mair. Campaigning for the EU referendum was also suspended following her killing.
The Mock The Week episode, which had been due to air at 10pm was replaced by a re-run of QI from the L series with guests Sue Perkins, Josh Widdicombe and Frank Skinner. It is not yet known whether it will be shown in the 10pm Sunday slot where it is normally repeated.
ITV2 also replaced an episode of Family Guy tonight because it featured a shooting.
The channel had been due to show Believe It or Not, Joe’s Walking On Air in which the usually wheelchair-bound Joe undergoes an operation to walk again – after which he finds a new lease of life and leaves his wife Bonnie. Desperate to get him back, she shoots him in an attempt to hit his spine and cripple him again.
Instead ITV2 aired the episode Padre De Familiar, in which Peter starts an anti-immigration group, but he quickly changes his mind when he finds out that he was born in Mexico.
