15 comedy shows in a day
Comedy duo The Sketch Men are attempting to set a new record for the most gigs performed in 24 hours.
They are hoping to perform a 20-minute set in at least 15 venues across Manchester this Sunday.
The pair, Jack Taylor-Wood and Zach Slater, will be lugging props and costumes between the sites during their quest, which will take more than ten hours.
They hope their stunt will raise money to fund their show, Attempted Jokes, at the Great Manchester and Edinburgh Fringes, as well as a four-day run in London.
'We wanted to do something a bit different than the usual crowdfunding campaign,' said Taylor-Wood.
Slater added: 'It's going to be a lot of fun. Jack and I are both huge fans of Guinness World Records and would love to set one ourselves. We've communicated with Guinness, and it'd be a dream come true to have that certificate on our wall, and we'll be training ruthlessly in the meantime.'
There is not currently an official record for most gigs in a day; but Australian Mark Murphy set a weekly record in 2007. However many Edinburgh Fringe comics will exceed his tally of 30 without much effort – and in 2012, Dan Willis performed six hour-long shows every day for the duration of the festival.
The Sketch Men kick off at Ziferblat in the Northern Quarter at midday and end at Liars Club in Salford at 10pm. Full details are on their Facebook page.
They will also be among the 25+ acts performing at Chortle's Manchester Fast Fringe at the Dancehouse next Friday. Tickets for the variety-packed spectacular, hosted by Justin Moorhouse, are available here.
