Tony Robinson joins Man Down
Sir Tony Robinson is to return to comedy, with a new role in Man Down.
The Baldrick star will play Greg Davies’s potential stepdad in the third series when the sitcom returns to Channel 4 later this summer.
Steven Berkoff, famous for his villainous roles on the big screen, is also joining the show, playing a ‘terrifying caretaker’ at the school where Davies’s character Dan works.
Man Down initially starred Robinson’s Blackadder co-star Rik Mayall as Dan’s prank-loving father, but he died shortly before work on the second series began.
Stephanie Cole was then drafted in as Dan’s formidable and dotty aunt Nesta to torment him.
Man Down is Time Team presenter Robinson’s first comedy role since the BBC’s critically panned sitcom Big Top in 2009. He will play a love interest for Dan’s mum, Polly, played by Gwyneth Powell.
Davies is to appear on tonight’s episode of the Graham Norton Show to discuss the sitcom, alongside Hollywood stars Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Greg Davies, Jodie Foster and Olympic diver Tom Daley
