Dawn French to star in Sky 1 drama
Dawn French is to star in a four-part Sky 1 drama set in rural Cornwall.
Delicious has been written by Dan Sefton, who previously worked on Mr Selfridge, and is described as a ‘surprising and compelling story of love, heartbreak, food and female friendship’.
In it, French plays a ‘sensual and passionate cook’ called Gina, divorced from entrepreneurial chef and hotel owner Leo, who remarried a woman called Sam. However, Leo is keeping a secret, which brings Gina and Sam closer together.
The Vicar Of Dibley star said: ‘Cornwall, summer, sunshine and the other S word - it will be Delicious fun."
Phillippa Giles, executive producer for programme-makers Bandit Television said: ‘The series is feisty, funny and frank and with Dawn French at the centre the honesty will be unflinching.’
Delicious is one of six high-profile dramas today announced by Sky, including Idris Elba thriller Guerrilla and Game of Thrones-style serial The Last Dragonslayer, whose cast includes The Royal Family’s Ricky Tomlinson.
Anne Mensah, Sky’s head of drama, Sky said: ‘It’s incredibly exciting to welcome Dawn French to Sky 1. We’ve been wanting to work with her for a long time and Delicious is just the perfect project. It’s funny, surprising and audacious but also compelling and emotional. Plus the wonderful Cornish countryside - it’s going to be a fabulous treat for our audience.’
French lives in Cornwall and is chancellor of Falmouth University. It is her second TV series set in the county, following the 2002-2004 comedy Wild West, in which she co-starred with Catherine Tate.
