Voting has now opened for the People's Choice award for the Manchester leg of the Chortle Student Comedy award.

The hotly-contested heat, probably the strongest of them all, was won by Rachel Slater, a creative writing student at Liverpool John Moores university who describes her style as 'awkward clown-influenced character comedy'.

Now you can choose which of the other acts will go forward to a second vote to fill the two People's Choice places in the semi-finals. Polls close at midnight on Friday.

The last vote, for the Southampton heat, was  won by economics student Philip Archer Lock. He said that taking part in the Chortle Student Comedy Award was 'an excellent experience for me to meet other comedians and perform in front of a large crowd, the experience helped me develop my style and gave me more confidence for future gigs'.
