Jongleurs returns to Glasgow
Jongleurs comedy club is returning to Glasgow.
The stand-up chain will be running weekly shows at the Reina Club in Hope Street from May 14, with the aim of adding some Friday shows from the autumn.
The reopening will come five months after Jongleurs unexpectedly lost its home in the city with few days' notice after nightclub operator Novus Leisure unexpectedly decided to close the Mansion House venue where the club was held. Around 50 nightclub staff lost their jobs.
A Jongleurs spokesman said: ‘We’re very pleased to be back in the city that has previously supported Jongleurs well in terms of audiences.’
Resuming a night in Glasgow is a step in the right direction for Jongleurs, which will disappear from Camden, Birmingham, Reading and Watford in May when the sites are rebranded as The Comedy Loft, with bookings taken over by Nottingham-based Just The Tonic, after Jongleurs’ licensing deal with venue owners Intertain expires.
Intertain was the company formed following a controversial ‘pre-pack’ administration when Jongleurs’ former owner Regent Inns went under, allowing management to continue running the operation without being responsible for the debts of the old company.
