Coogan and Brydon take another Trip
Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are making a third series of The Trip – this time for Sky Atlantic.
The pair will be travelling to Spain for the next instalment of their culinary quest, travelling from the North Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast.
Their itinerary will include Cantabria, the Basque region, Aragon, Rioja, Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia.
The show, created and directed by Michael Winterbottom, started on BBC Two in 2010 when the pair, as fictionalised versions of themselves, visited the Lake District. The series was also edited into a feature film. A follow-up in 2014 took the duo around Italy.
Coogan – whose new series of Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters will begin tomorrow night on Sky Atlantic – said: ‘Having thought long and hard about yet another sojourn into culinary distractions and middle age, I have reluctantly agreed to Y Viva Espana. I have a hole in my diary, there will be free food and accommodation and Rob Brydon is surprisingly good company. I also like Michael.’
Winterbottom added: ‘Travelling with Rob and Steve is always enjoyable - so it seemed like a good idea to go on another journey together - before they get too old.’
Brydon revealed on Twitter that the series will be shot in autumn, meaning a likely release sometime in 2017.
Sky Atlantic director Zai Bennett said: ‘The Trip is as close to perfection as you get in comedy. It's a rare chance to watch comic masters, totally authoring their work with creative freedom. It's an absolutely perfect fit for Sky Atlantic. ‘
The Trip to Spain is produced by Melissa Parmenter and Josh Haynes for Revolution Films, Baby Cow and Small Man productions.
