Peep Show and Inside No 9 also claim British Comedy Guide gongs

Peter Kay’s Car Share has been named comedy of the year by the British Comedy Guide.

The BBC One programme was also named best new comedy in the online vote.

All 370 TV and radio comedies which aired in Britain were automatically eligible for the award, which does not have a pre-selected shortlist.

Best new TV sitcom: Car Share.

Best returning TV sitcom: Peep Show

Best TV sketch show: Horrible Histories

Best TV panel show: Would I Lie To You?

Best TV entertainment show: The Graham Norton Show.

Best radio sitcom: John Finnemore’s Double Acts

Best radio sketch show: Dead Ringers

Best radio panel show: I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue.

Best radio entertainment show: Mark Steel’s In Town

Best TV comedy-drama: Inside No. 9.

Comedy of the year: Peter Kay’s Car Share.

The annual Editors’ Award was given to the Channel 4 satire Ballot Monkeys, about politicians and their aides on the election trail, with each episode filmed just hours before broadcast.

The British Comedy Guide said: ‘Very funny and pushing the bounds of scripted comedy production with such an incredibly tight turnaround, Ballot Monkeys is a deserving winner of our Editors’ Award on all fronts: creative, performance and technical.’
