ABC to pilot Ed Weeks's script
America’s ABC network is to pilot a new comedy from Peep Show producer Hannah Mackay and British comic Ed Weeks.
Last year, Chortle reported how the broadcaster brought the duo’s script of a half-hour comedy about a lesbian lothario and her more cautious straight male best friend.
Now it has committed to shoot a pilot of the show, originally called Wing Person but now without a title.
Weeks is becoming a familiar face on American TV. He plays Dr. Jeremy Reed on The Mindy Project and appeared in HBO’s Project Greenlight, a documentary series about first-time filmmakers. But his role on the new series is strictly behind the camera, Hollywood website Deadline reports.
The show will be executive produced by Andrew Reich, who previously produced Friends, alongside Anne Brogan, Val Ames, Melanie Stokes and Siobhan Bachman for London-based Kindle Entertainment.
ABC chiefs have also commissioned comedies Toast, revealing the back story about wedding toasts; Hail Mary, an adaptation of the Austrian series Braunschlag about a faked miracle; and The Fluffy Shop, co-written by and starring stand-up Gabriel Iglesias.
