If women ruled Britain...
Arthur Mathews adapts his radio comedy for C4
Father Ted co-creator Arthur Mathews is writing a TV sitcom about a female-dominated House of Commons.
His script, for Channel 4, is adapted from a Radio 4 pilot, Men About The House, which aired last year.
The original starred Ingrid Oliver as Prime Minister Eve Feevis and also featured Morgana Robinson and Fergus Craig.
Matthews, who also co-writes Toast Of London with Matt Berry, told the Radio Times: ‘It’s the House of Commons with just, like, mad people in it – they’re MPs, but they’re just very irresponsible, like children,
‘It’s based on a radio thing I did a couple of years ago. They’re mostly women as well, but the main thing is it’s just very surreal, they’re like a bunch of teenagers.’
It is not yet known whether the project will progress beyond the script commission.
Last year it was also reported that Mathews is working on a new sitcom about ‘well-intentioned’ bailiffs, inspired by BBC One daytime show The Sheriffs Are Coming.
