• The Tory MP who Chris Morris tricked into condemning the made-up drug Cake is to help form the government's new drug policy. David Amess appeared on Brass Eye in 1997 where he held a giant pill and called it: 'A big yellow death bullet in the head of some poor user – or custard gannet as the dealers call them.' Afterwards, he even raised a question in Parliament about the fictional drug… and now he will be bringing his wisdom to the Government's Psychoactive Substances Bill, as it was announced this week that he will co-chair the committee overseeing it. • Eddie Murphy just made his return to Saturday Night Live after 30 years… and now fellow comic David Spade has revealed the decades-long boycott was all over one gag at his expense. On one episode, which screened after the movies Harlem Nights and Vampire in Brooklyn flopped, Cross showed a picture of Murphy on air and said: 'Look, children! It's a falling star. Make a wish.' In his new autobiography, Almost Interesting, Spade revealed that he was bombarded by calls from Murphy after it aired. And when he built up the courage to call back, Murphy raged at him: 'David Spade, who the fuck do you think you are?!! Honestly? Who. The. Fuck. Going after ME?? You dumb motherfucker! I'm off-limits, don't you know that? You wouldn't have a job if it weren't for me. Talking shit about me?'

• This oil painting by Ricky Gervais is set to raise hundreds of pounds for cancer support charity Maggie's Centres when it goes under the hammer on Sunday. Entitled Sunset Cityscape, the piece depicting the New York skyline is expected to fetch up to £2,500 at McTear's Auctioneers in Glasgow. Jane Owen Inglis, of the Inchmore Gallery in Inverness, where the piece has been on display, said: 'Although it won't be to everybody's taste, there is no doubt it is an interesting and well-executed piece.' • Meanwhile a batch of memorabilia from Simpsons producer Sam Simons raised more than $250,000 at auction yesterday. A framed collection of six Simpsons concept drawings raised $10,000 – more than twice the estimate, and an original 1985 Life In Hell comic strip signed by Matt Groening, raised more than $8,000.

• Interesting attempt by Sue Perkins to say Romesh Ranganathan's surname at the end of Radio 4 panel show Dilemma this week…

• A blow for Hugh Dennis, who has had to pull out of the Great South Run through Portsmouth on Sunday after tearing his calf muscle. He had been due to take part in the ten-mile event for the Alzheimer's Society.

• Julian Clary and Barry Cryer have shot a porn film written by Sir John Gielgud in 1976. But Trouser Bar, based on the actor's clothes fetish, is unlikely to ever see the light of day since the trust looking after the thespian's legacy is threatening legal action over copyright. • Yesterday, we reported on Julia Davis's new sitcom Camping. Well, trudging through the internet for snippets of information revealed there was an extra – sorry 'supporting artist' – on the shoot called Peter Carroll… which by coincidence is the real name of Henry Normal, boss of the production company making the series, Baby Cow.

• Dapper Laughs has made a video for the Daily Star telling girls how to give blow jobs. What a time to be alive!
