Bridget Christie is a 'woman of the year'
Bridget Christie has been named one of the ‘women of the year’ by Red magazine.
She won the award in the creative category for being ‘a true game-changer in the world of comedy – not only does she create hilarious material, but all of it shines a light on prejudice and inequality.’
Judge Emma Freud said: ‘Bridget has found an amazing accessible place between radical feminism, practical action and brilliant comedy. She is brave, funny, fearless, wise, modern, determined and pioneering – and does all this in a thick West Country accent.’
Christie, a previous winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award, said: ‘It was such an honour to win a Red Woman of the Year Award along with such incredible, awe-inspiring women.
‘However, the night was completely ruined by a MALE waiter who took my meal away before I’d even really started it, while I was in the toilet. Unbelievable. I hadn’t even tried the purple broccoli. You can’t even win a woman’s award these days without the patriarchy ruining it. I assume it was a male waiter anyway. I didn’t actually see who took it because I was in the toilet, like I said.’
Other winners included Dianna Nammi, founder of the Iranian and Kurdish’s Women’s Rights Organisation, and Jennie Price, chief executive of Sport England.
Christie is taking her next show, A Book For Her, to London’s Leicester Square Theatre from November 16. Her previous offering, A Bic For Her was the best selling comedy show ever to run at the Soho Theatre.
