Sitcom promoted to main ITV channel

ITV2 comedy Plebs is being promoted to the main ITV channel.

The first two series are to be repeated on ITV starting on Monday June 29 at 10.40pm, in a key slot after the News At Ten. The full 14 episodes will be shown across the following ten weeks.

When the ancient Roman sitcom launched in March 2013, it attracted 1.16 million viewers, making it the highest-rated British comedy on a digital channel. Ratings have fluctuated since, but it regularly attracts close to a million viewers.

It has also won Best New Comedy at the British Comedy Awards and Best Scripted Comedy at the Royal Television Society Awards, as well as being nominated for two Baftas.

ITV’s director of television, Peter Fincham said: ‘We are thrilled with the response to the first two series of Plebs, it really is a wonderful thing - and we’re really proud to have this comedy as part of our ITV family.’

Plebs is written by Sam Leifer and Tom Basden and stars Tom Rosenthal, Joel Fry, Ryan Sampson, Doon Mackichan. Danny Dyer, Shaun Williamson, Jim Rosenthal and Simon Callow have been among the celebrities making cameos.

The comedy is produced by Teddy Leifer for Rise Films, with Caroline Leddy executive producer.

The move is only for the repeats and ITV say that if there are any more series they will continue to air on ITV2.
