Cast announced for ghostly new sitcom

The cast has been announced for the new sitcom Marley’s Ghost, about a woman who can talk to the dead.

Sarah Alexander takes the lead role, while A Touch Of Cloth’s John Hannah plays the dead husband with whom she communicates. Nathan Barley star Nicholas Burns plays her lover – who’s also dead – while former EastEnder Jo Joyner is a ghostly vicar.

The show has been written for UKTV’s Gold channel by Daniel Peacock, who has previously worked on The Comic Strip Presents, and is produced by Matt Lucas’s company John Stanley Productions. Filming started this week.

Commissioning editor Simon Lupton said of the casting: ‘We couldn’t imagine anyone better to bring [these characters] to life… even in death.

’We really believe over the course of the three episodes the Gold audience will fall in love with these characters.’

Marley’s Ghost is one of three original comedies the channel announced last month. The others are Henry IX, about a modern-day monarch and written by veteran comedy duo Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais; and Bull, about a hapless antiques shop owner, written by John-Luke Roberts and Gareth Gwynn and based on their 2010 Radio 4 comedy Antiquity.

The shows will air later this year or early in 2016.
