Radio 4 series for Angela Barnes

Inspired by her late dad

Angela Barnes has landed her first Radio 4 series.

The comedian, who won the BBC Radio New Comedy Award in 2011, will make a four-part series based on her Edinburgh Fringe debut, You Can't Take It With You.

The show, which premiered at last year's festival, is partly a tribute to Angela's late father, a sex shop manager, naturist, and a big fan of caravans and pranks. His sudden death in 2008 was the catalyst that drove Angela to pursue her career in comedy.

His motto was 'you can't take it with you' – but the Barnes family tried to prove him wrong by stuffing his coffin with sentimental keepsakes.

In the four quarter-hour episodes, Barnes will do the same thing and asks her loved ones to nominate objects that they would choose to send on with her.

She said: 'I'm dead chuffed to have a series on Radio 4. I've been a BBC Radio 4 comedy geek for as long as I can remember so it means so much that they've let me have a go.'

The series will be recorded in front of a live audience later this year, and be broadcast in spring 2016. The series will be made by Impatient Productions and produced by Lianne Coop.
