Comics perform gig at 3,196ft

More than 100 walkers yesterday watched the UK's highest ever comedy gig, which took place at 3,196ft on the summit of Ben Lomond.

The show has so far raised almost £1000 for the charities Scottish Mountain Rescue and Trossachs Search and Rescue Dogs (a href="https://www.justgiving.com/sumitfunny/">Donate)

Gary Little, Mark Nelson, Chris Forbes, Vladimir McTavish performed alongside organiser Alan Anderson, with highlights including this exchange with a barefooted National Trust for Scotland ranger, called Fraser.

Most the comics are regular 'Munro baggers' – who aim to conquer as many Munros (Scottish mountains more than 3,000ft high) as possible – although Nelson was a novice.

Afterwards, he said 'That was amazing, definitely one of the high points of my comedy career. My Edinburgh Fringe show this year is about me being a year older than Jesus. I've probably just performed to more people on this mountain than I will in Edinburgh during August. This was my Sermon on the Mount.'

Munro Bagger Paul Duncan was among the audience – but no idea about the gig until he arrived at the summit. He posted on Facebook: 'Last thing I expected to see at the top of a mountain when I set off this morning. Hilarious stuff.'

Anderson said: 'Driving up to Rowardennan we speculated that we might get a dozen or so nutters make the trip to the summit with us. On arriving at he summit we were blown away by number of people who were already there, sitting in the wind, chatting and having lunch while waiting for us to perform.

'Normally you spend five or ten minutes at the top of a climb. But 100 hardy, and very generous, souls stayed up there with us for over an hour. Well done to all who made the effort and thank you for your donations.'
