Taking over from Rik Mayall

Bob Mortimer is to star in a new advertising campaign for Bombardier beer, taking over from Rik Mayall.

He takes over the role of the ‘irreverent’ Bombardier Bedford character in a new campaign starting on St George’s Day, April 23.

Phil Toms, director of brands at the Charles Wells Brewery said: ‘I’m thrilled that, in Bob, we have one of the country’s most original comedy talents bringing his own unique comedy to the character and we believe he’ll have a great connection with drinkers.’

Mortimer said: ‘I enjoyed the previous Bombardier campaign and love the fact that it symbolises great camaraderie – just like going to the pub with your mates.  It represents a slightly irreverent way of doing things but always with a twinkle in the eye and I’m looking forward to following the Bombardier’s unique take on events over the summer.’

Bombardier have also been pushing the hashtag #newcommand for their campaign, possibly unaware that the social media label is also being used by Christians in reference to John 13:34: ‘A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.’
