Comic David Elms up for acting award
Musical comedian David Elms has been nominated for an acting award in Los Angeles.
The former Chortle student finalist has been shortlisted for best actor at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival.
It’s for his role in Swag, a 12-minute silent comedy film that he also wrote. In it, he plays a dull, boring and insecure office worker who becomes taken by a 'cool guy' he sees on the Tube wearing a baseball cap.
The film features a raft of names familiar from the comedy circuit, including Ellie White, Adam Hess, Lolly Adefope, Rhys James, Natasia Demetriou, Phil Wang, Pierre Novellie, Lizzie Daykin and Mark Davison – who also has a nomination at the LA festival for best supporting actor.
To complete Swag’s hat trick of nominees, Simon Elsbury has been shortlisted for best cinematographer.
It is directed by Matt Holt and produced by Sara Shulman, who said: ‘We hope that international audiences enjoy watching this short silent comedy film as much as we enjoyed making it.’
The film has its Los Angeles premiere at the LA Indie Film Festival on Saturday, before being included in the official selection at the short film festival the following week.
Swag - which is not available online while it completes the festival circuit - has previously won a director’s award at the North Carolina Film Festival, and an award of merit in San Francisco.
