RADIO 4 has commissioned a third series of Susan Calman Is Convicted, her stand-up show about subjects on which she has strong opinions. She tweeted today: ‘Delighted,excited and can't wait to get started!’ The show will be recorded next year.

EDDIE IZZARD is to take part in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year broadcast. The comic will be celebrating the work of sports volunteers, talking to some of the 500 attending the ceremony at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on December 14 as they arrive, and presenting the Get Inspired Unsung Hero Award during the show.

THE BFI on London’s South Bank is to host a Marx Brothers season next month. The Cocoanuts, Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, A Night In Casablanca and Duck Soup will all be screened at various times from January 14 to 31.

EDINBURGH Fringe venue The Gilded Balloon is to promote year-round comedy in the Scottish capital for the first tine since its former Cowgate base was destroyed by fire in 2002. Dylan Moran opens the monthly shows at the Festival Theatre’s studio rooms next month. The move follows the Gilded Balloon programming regular comedy nights in Glasgow’s Drygate venue.
