Will gig for food
Comics including Dylan Moran are to perform at a gig where the price of admission is a bag of groceries.
The donations will boost the stocks of a food bank to stop people in Edinburgh going hungry.
Comic Hardeep Singh Kohl – who has written books and performed tour shows based around food – came up with the unusual idea after a discussion on Twitter.
He said: ‘The comedy community like many others really want to contribute to those struggling during these tough times. It's disgraceful that in a country as wealthy as ours people have to rely on food banks. But they do. So what else can we do but offer a few laughs in return for some food?’
The gig, also featuring Janey Godley, will take place at The Stand in Glasgow on December 9; with a follow-up at the Newcastle branch on January 6 featuring Jason Cook and Carl Hutchinson.
A spokesman for The Stand said: ‘While music gets all the attention for doing its bit for good causes, and comedians get grief for a handful of tax dodgers, the truth is that the comedy circuit is hugely giving.
‘Whenever something crops up in the news, you’ll find comedians banding together to help, and this is one of those situations. All we ask is that people turn up with a bag or more of shopping per person and enjoy the acts.’
