Jupitus joins Urinetown

Another West End musical for Phill

Phill Jupitus is to join the West End cast of Urinetown: The Musical next month.

The comic will take over the role of Caldwell B Cladwell from from December 1 to January 24.

Caldwell B. Cladwell is the show's evil villain; the money-grabbing president of the Urine Good Company who gleefully exploits the poor.

Jupitus's run at the the Apollo Theatre follows previous stints in Hairspray and Spamalot.

The comedian today tells the London Evening Standard that he got his musical theatre break after a casting director spotted his ability to hold a tune on the intros round of Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

He added: 'I get nervous with theatre unlike I do with stand-up, poetry or telly, it’s the responsibility you have to other people on stage. I’m always safer on stage on my own.'
