Toast leads British Comedy Award nominees

Full shortlists revealed

Matt Berry and his sitcom Toast Of London lead this year's British Comedy Awards shortlists, with a total of eight nominations.

The Channel 4 show has been shortlisted for best sitcom, best new comedy programme and the new category for best comedy moment of the year.

Berry – who wrote the show with Father Ted's Arthur Mathews – has also been shortlisted for best TV comedy actor and best breakthrough artist (for his role in House Of Cards) in which category his co-star Harry Peacock is also shortlisted.

And Doon Mackichan, who plays the agent of Berry's thespian character Stephen Toast, is shortlisted for best actress.

Berry also has a separate nomination in the new internet comedy short category for his Lone Wolf sketch.

Harry & Paul Story of the Two's is next up with four nominations, including best comedy moment of the year. Both Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse are up for best comedy actor, and the show is also nominated in the sketch category.

Meanwhile, Still Game star Greg Hemphill questioned the fact the shortlists contained only English programmes, save for the international category. 'British be fuck?' he tweeted.

The soaraway success of the revival of his sitcom in Glasgow failed to make the best comedy moment of 2014 shortlist, although the Monty Python reunion did. Also nominated in that category was 8 Out 10 Cats Does Countdown and Would I Lie To You?, although it's not specified what the particular moments are.
