Kitson announces Christmas shows
Daniel Kitson is to perform a Christmas show designed as an antidote to the rowdy seasonal club gigs.
The comedian will be performing at South London's Battersea Arts Centre for the first six days of December - although details of the show remain sparse.
But in his lucidly descriptive blurb for the shows, he recalls his experiences as a compere at early in his career – and how he came disillusioned with the atmosphere. He describes the initial 'utterly exhilarating' rush of the combative atmosphere of those gigs and the 'giddyingly lucrative' pay... but also how he came to take 'less and less pleasure in the collective drunken lunacy'.
'I could feel my delight dwindling,' he wrote, 'Overcome with a burgeoning disdain for everyone involved, myself included.'
But he said that when the Battersea Arts Centre asked if he wanted to make a Christmas Show, he agreed.
In a separate email to fans on his mailing list, Kitson wrote: 'Details about the show are, at this early autumnal stage, predictably vague - I really don’t know what it will be apart from the fact that it will absolutely, in some way - be a Christmas Show. And I am genuinely excited to write it.'
He also revealed that he may wear a costume... 'and there might be snow in it'.
Tickets go on sale at midday next Wednesday (October 22). Tickets are limited to six per person and must be collected on the night, to thwart touts.Published: 15 Oct 2014
