Star-studded cast for Dad's Army movie
The full cast of the film version of Dad’s Army has been revealed.
Catherine Zeta Jones heads the newly-announced team, playing glamorous journalist Rose Winters, tasked with wiring about the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard.
The ensemble will also include Tom Courtenay as Corporal Jones, Michael Gambon as Godfrey and Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison as the naive Pike. Danny Mays will play Walker and Bill Paterson will play Fraser.
Meanwhile the star-studded supporting cast also includes Sarah Lancashire, Alison Steadman, Mark Gatiss and Annette Crosbie.
It has already been announced that Toby Jones would play pompous Captain Mainwaring with Bill Nighy as his well-to-do second-in command, Private Wilson.
Shooting starts this month entirely on location in Yorkshire – a shift from Norfolk where the TV series was made – with Johnny English Reborn director Oliver Parker at the helm.
Originally created by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, the new script has has been written by Hamish McColl. It involves the MI5 discovering a radio signal sent to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea, sparking rumours of a spy amid the Home Guard unit.
Reports last week that Mackenzie Crook, Anna Friel, Richard Wilson and John Hurt were also to appear now seem wide of the mark.
Universal Pictures International will be distributing the new movie worldwide.
