Screening for film about Malcolm Hardee's club

The documentary about Malcolm Hardee’s legendary Tunnel Club is to get a rare screening as part of the Greenwich Comedy Festival next week.

Hardee’s step-children, Will & Cassie, run the five-day event and have programmed the film for next Friday night.

The screening will be preceded by comedy from Tunnel club veteran Simon Munnery and Martin Soan, who appeared with Hardee in The Greatest Show On Legs, the alternative variety troupe best known for their naked balloon dance.

And after the 35-minute film, director Jody VandenBurg and some of the comics who appear in on screen will take part in a Q&A session.

The Tunnel Club, which Hardee ran and compered from 1984 to 1988, was known for having the comedy circuit’s most unforgiving audiences. The film interviews comics who played there, including Harry Enfield, Arthur Smith and Kevin McCarthy, as well as a notorious heckler, Ben.

The screening takes place at the Greenwich Picturehouse from 8pm next Friday.

Stand-ups appearing as part of the festival, which kicks off on Wednesday, include Stewart Lee, Milton Jones, Adam Hills, Mark Thomas and Seann Walsh.
